Ingredients:
For the cake:
2 1/2 cups (310g) all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (120ml) honey
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
For the frosting:
1/2 cup (120g) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups (250g) powdered sugar
3 tbsp honey
1-2 tbsp heavy cream (to adjust consistency)

Steps

Prepare the cake batter:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the honey, followed by the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients and buttermilk, alternating between the two, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
Bake the cakes:
Evenly divide the batter between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then gently transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the frosting:
In a large bowl, beat the butter until smooth and creamy. Slowly add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined. Gradually incorporate the honey and heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
Assemble the cake:
Place the first cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous layer of frosting over the top. Top with the second cake layer and frost the entire cake. For an elegant touch, drizzle honey over the cake, sprinkle with sea salt, or add edible flowers for a beautiful finishing touch.
Serve and enjoy:
Refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes to allow the frosting to firm up. For the best flavor, serve the cake at room temperature.
